Most of us know the physical branch of yoga is just one piece of a much larger tradition, but we can be unsure exactly how they interrelate.
We also know Yoga has links with both Hinduism & Buddhism, but are often unclear where they connect & where they differ.
In this special introductory workshop, we’ll explore the fundamentals of Yoga, including how the physical practices of Yoga fit in with these key teachings as well as the other “branches” of Yoga as a whole. By the end, you’ll have a deeper understanding not only of Yoga but why asana is so much more than just “stretching.”
Topics will include:
- What is Yoga? — Learn the key teachings of Yoga with special emphasis on how they relate to the physical practices with which most of us begin.
- Branches & Styles — Learn how Hatha Yoga relates to the other branches (Jnana, Karma, Bhakti & Raja Yoga), as well as how various styles of yoga compare & relate….
- Yoga, Hinduism & Buddhism – Develop a better understanding of the relationship between Yoga, Hinduism & Buddhism, including some common misunderstandings even within the “yoga community….”
- Texts, Tools & Techniques — Gain a sense of the key works of Yoga, some concrete practices for bringing the teachings of Yoga into our lives & resources for further exploration.
